James P. Todd, Route 3, a retired Cummins Engine company employee, died about 4:50 a.m. at the Bartholomew County hospital. He was 69 years old and had been ill for several weeks.

Mr. Todd had been employed as a tool maker at Cummins from 1935 to 1960, retiring in January of 1960. Prior to working here he was employed for many years at the Fairbanks-Morse firm in Indianapolis. A member of the Elizabethtown Methodist Church he also belonged to the Elizabethtown Masonic lodge and Eastern Star, American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He was born Sep. 3, 1894, in Beech Grove Tenn., the son of James and Betty Jernigan Todd and married the former Miss Madge Kell Dec. 22, 1920. She survives.

Also surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Arthur Andis of 460 South Brooks street, Mrs. Virgil Scheidt and and Mrs. Charles Cline, both of Route 2; a sister, Mrs. Paul Turney of Indianapolis; a brother , Lewis B. Todd of Memphis, Tenn. and 11 grandchildren.

Four brothers and a sister preceded him in death.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Hathaway Funeral Home with burial at Garland Brook cemetery. Persons may call after 7 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Dr. Harold Mohler, pastor of the Elizabethtown church, will read the rites.

Gravesite Details

His obituary incorrectly states that he was born in Beechgrove. His birth certificate says that he was born in Bradyville.
