Graveside funeral services for Willie Jean Alberta Dupree Woods, age 90, of Brownwood, will be at 3 p.m. today, Jan. 9, 2006, at Eastlawn Memorial Park with Dr. Art Allen officiating, under the direction of Davis-Morris Funeral Home of Brownwood.
Willie Woods was born on Jan. 25, 1915, in Brownwood to Albert and Ila Causey DuPree. She married Fred Woods on June 8, 1935, in Brownwood. They lived in May, Ranger and Indian Creek before moving to West Texas. While living in Wickett during World War II, Willie worked at the Pyote Army Air Base as a “Rosie the Riveter.” Willie and Fred lived some 30 years in Wickett. After retirement, they moved back to Brownwood. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and worked as a baby sitter at the Word of Faith Church for many years. Willie loved to hunt arrowheads, work in her garden and sew.

Willie is survived by a daughter, Freyda Griffin and husband Stan of Coahoma; two sons, Bobby Woods and wife Neeta of Del Rio, and Al Woods of Hobbs, New Mexico; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter, Sheila Van; a son, Harold Woods; a brother, Albert DuPree; and a sister, Edna Sawyer.
