LOCAL AIRMAN RIVER VICTIM IN THAILAND. An Owensboro youth with the U. S. Air Force in Thailand, lost his life by drowning in a river in Nam Phung Sunday while trying to rescue a companion, according to word received here Friday.

The victim, A1C David Earl Rodgers, 23, son of Mr. and Mrs. James B. Rodgers, 3005 Allen Street, along with several members of the Air Force, were swimming toward some barrels 150 yards off shore. Rodgers made it, and in looking back saw one of his buddies floundering in the stream.

Rodgers swam back toward his companion and upon reaching him, both were seen to go down. They drowned before others could reach them.

A1C Rodgers, a graduate of Owensboro High School with the May class of 1962, enlisted in the USAF in September 1962, as a jet engine mechanic, and received his training at Texas A&M College at Amarillo, TX. He was stationed at Randolph Air Force Base, San Antonio, TX for four years before going overseas to Thailand on Jan. 1, 1967.

He was a member of the Bellevue Baptist Church of Owensboro. Surviving are the parents; two brothers, Charles A. Rodgers, of Indiapolis, IN, and James J (L) Rodgers, of Lexington, and two sisters, Mrs. Marilyn Brooks or Orlando, FL, and Mrs. Barbara Jean Joyce of Owensboro.

The body is being brought to the James H. Davis Funeral Home here.
