Torrence Lewis died in the Modoc Medical Center after aledgedly being knocked to the floor of the Modoc County jail by a local Indian. Lewis had been arrested Saturday night following a disturbance in a local tavern.

Lewis has been employed on various Modoc County ranches for several years. His only known is a brother Roland Lewis of Stockton.
