Born in Portland, he was co-owner of Ford Brothers Pontiac-Olds-GMC dealership in Portland for 28 years and retired as an independent insurance agent in 1993. He was mayor of Portland from 1968 to 1976. He was a World War II Navy veteran and past president of Portland Lions Club. Surviving are his wife, Marcia; four sons, Steven of Portland, Douglas of Fort Wayne, Michael of Seminole, Fla., and Matthew of Indianapolis; a brother, Hugh of Portland; a sister, Jean Miller of Portland; and eight grandchildren. Services at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Portland. Calling from 2 to 5 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Baird-Freeman Funeral Home, Portland. Burial in Green Park Cemetery, Portland, with military graveside rites. Memorials to Jay County Cancer Society or Jay County Heart Fund.
