ELDORADO - Joyce Whitten passed away Monday, Jan. 31, 2005, in a Houston hospital. Funeral service was at 3 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 3, at the First Presbyterian Church of Eldorado. Burial followed in Eldorado.
Joyce was born Dec. 23, 1932, in Eldorado to Lum and Ona Burk. She attended Eldorado High School and San Angelo College. She had two sisters, Dorothy and Louise.
Joyce married Joe C. Whitten of Eldorado on Dec. 21, 1951. Joyce and Jody lived in Abilene, then Fort Worth and finally settled in Houston, Texas, where they raised their three children. Joyce sold real estate for many years in Houston. She and her beloved Jody were active in community events and especially enjoyed participating in sports and school activities with their children.
Joyce was an avid bridge player and enjoyed meeting new friends and playing bridge online with players from all over the world.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jody; and her sister, Louise.
She is survived by her sister, Dorothy McWhirter of Augusta, Ga.; her son, Bryan of Holbrook, Ariz.; her daughter, Judy and husband Jim of Houston; and her son, Keith and his wife, Betty, also of Houston. She is also survived by five loving grandsons, Corey Whitten, David Whitten and John Bryan Whitten of Phoenix, Ariz., and Jason and Alex Scott of Houston. They will dearly miss their "Mama Jo."
