Carson was the son of Alvis Patton Addington & Sarah Ellen Derting Addington. He married Maggie Rhea Frazier, the daughter of Solomon Lincoln Frazier & Martha Evelyn McGlothlin Frazier, on December 21, 1910 in Scott County, Virginia. They were the parents of Helen and Herbert Leroy Addington. Mrs. Addington passed away, in 1925.

He married Frances Gum Lamkin, prior to 1930. Frances was the daughter of John Calvin Gum & Cora Lee Bell Gum and the widow of Clarence Eugene Gum. Mr. Addington assisted Frances in the raising of her adopted children, Larry L. and Lorraine V. Lamkin, to adulthood. Mr. Addington supported his household by working at the Aermotor Co., manufacturers of windmills and gas engines, in Chicago.
