Morris Ray Womack, age 83, of Cross Plains, passed away Friday, February 11, 2011 in the Rising Star Nursing Center. Funeral services will be at the Cross Plains Church of Christ Monday, February 14, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. with Bob Pipes officiating assisted by Elvin Goode; burial will follow Tuesday, February 15th at 2:00 pm. in the Bellview Cemetery in Rotan. The family will be at the funeral home in Cross Plains Sunday, February 13, 2011 from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. to receive friends and relatives for a time of sharing memories.
Ray was born to James Randolph and Laura Jane (Boone) Womack on November 4, 1927 in Throckmorton County.
Ray was a graduate of Olney High School and then served in the U.S. Navy two years. He then began his college career, earning his Bachelor of Science and Masters of Education at Texas Tech College.
Ray and Azalee (Bryant) Womack were married in Lubbock on May 27, 1952.
He taught vocational agriculture in Hobbs I.S.D. and Rotan I.S.D. Ray was an elementary principal in Rotan, Amherst and Cross Plains where he and Azalee retired.
Ray loved to reminisce about students, stock shows, and elementary events. To him every student was of great value.
Ray considered himself to be a very blest man to have served the Cross Plains Church of Christ as an elder for several years and to have been associated with the best of teachers, superintendents and school boards.
Survivors are Azalee, his wife of 581/2 years, one sister, Madeline Eddleman of Graham, two daughters, Luanne and husband Steve Jones of Hutto and Laura Fritz of Tomball; one son, Morris Womack of the Ft. Worth area; three grandsons, Bryan Fritz of Houston, Jeffrey Fritz of College Station, and Grant Jones of Hutto; one granddaughter, Leslie Jones of ACU in Abilene.
Preceding in death are Ray's parents, 6 brothers, one sister, two nieces and a son, Cecil Wayne.
In lieu of flowers, those who wish to may give to their churches or favorite charity.
