Hu-Gilbert Abernathy Jr., 69, of North Redington Beach, Fla., formerly of Mooresville, died Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2003, at his home.
Born in Copperhill, Tenn., Mr. Abernathy was a general manager for General Dynamics for 32 years. A veteran of the U.S. Navy, he served in the Korean War.
Mrs. Abernathy was a protestant and a member of the Elks Lodge in St. Petersburg, Fla. He moved to Florida from Mooresville in 1992. He was married for 51 years to Shirley Abernathy, who survives.
Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons, Ron Abernathy of Orange County, Calif. and Mike Abernathy of Concord; a daughter, Jennifer Abernathy Smith of China Grove; a brother, Charles O. Abernathy of Homosassa, Fla.; six grandchildren, Ryan A. Smith and Gil M. Smith, both of Mooresville, Michael Abernathy and Sara Abernathy, both of Concord, and David Abernathy and Jennifer Abernathy, both of California; and a great-grandson.
A family service for Mr. Abernathy has already been held.
