The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Sergeant Eugene B. Cassidy (ASN: 1241866), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company M, 110th Infantry Regiment, 28th Division, A.E.F., near the Vesle River, France, 26 August 1918. With utter disregard for his own safety, Sergeant Cassidy voluntarily left shelter; and, going 100 yards in advance of the line, under heavy machine-gun and shell fire, rescued a wounded officer.
