He was born November 9, 1943, in Springfield, Ohio, the son of Vernon and Ruthmay (Pullins) Hoffman.
Joel was a 1962 graduate of Northeastern High School. He retired from Bowser Morner Testing Laboratory, after 20 years of service, as a Project Manager. Joel also was a tax preparer and owned Sun Valley Tax Service. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and wood working.
He is survived by his wife of 49½ years, Billie Jo "BJ" (Lytle) Hoffman, daughter, Stephanie (Brad) Fontaine of Kettering, son, Jon (Rachel) Hoffman of Lancaster, Ohio, grandchildren, Alec, Justin, Daniel, Caroline, Gracie, brother-in-law, Harold Brown of Urbana, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Joel was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Eleanor Kay Brown.
