Funeral services for Roberta "Bobby" E. Hughes, 89, of Lamesa will be held Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at Friendship Baptist Church with Dennis Adams officiating. Visitation will be held Monday, March 17, 2014 from 6:30-8:00 p.m. at Branon Funeral Home. Interment will be in Montvale Cemetery in Sterling City on Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. under the direction of Branon Funeral Home. Bobby passed away on Thursday, March 13, 2014 in Lubbock.
She was born April 8, 1924 in Sterling City to Walter and Lucy (Sykes) Davis. She married Earl Hughes August 1, 1950 and he preceded her in death August 20, 2006; they were married 56 years. Bobby worked as a PBX operator for Bell Telephone Company. She enjoyed collecting objects, such as plastic pill cups and creating art out of them, and she loved to crochet pot holders and give them to her friends as gifts.
She is survived by her son, Skeaugh Cobb and wife, Jeanne Ann of Rowlett; 4 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. Bobby is also preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Gwenna Lou Cobb Witt; 3 brothers; 4 sisters; and 1 grandson.
The family suggests memorials to River Ministry at Friendship Baptist Church. 501 CR 24, Lamesa, TX, 79331.
