On April 9th, at the age of 54, Cindy Granade lost her life in a tragic accident at her home in Shingle Springs, CA. The family would like to extend their thanks to the caring and compassionate nurses, doctors and emergency personnel who helped support and comfort them on the night of their loss. Cindy was born on April 18th, 1955, to Paul and Ruth Christman, in Sacramento, CA and moved to Fair Oaks at the age of 5. She was raised in a Catholic family with one sister and two brothers. She attended St. Mel's Elementary School and Mercy High School. She learned how to play over 25 instruments as a child, ran track and participated in 4-H showing her horse and received a music scholarship to Stanford University. Her music scholarship would remain unfilled, though, as on June 8, 1974 she took the hand of Douglas Granade in marriage. She gave up her scholarship for the man she loved and would remain married to for the rest of her life. She gave birth to three boys and was a stay at home mother for them through their school years. She was a 4-H leader in Sacramento and El Dorado counties for over 35 years after she graduated from the program which she joined when she was 9 years old. She was a music teacher for St. Mel's school in the early 1980's where her boys went to school. In 1989, she helped found D. G. Granade, General Contractors with her husband where she held the positions of receptionist, bookkeeper and finally office manager. In 2004, she moved to Shingle Springs and Granite Creek Ranch was born. Rekindling her love of horses, Cindy helped build their herd of performance Quarter Horses and learned to ride reined cow horses, herself. Cindy was an energetic, happy and passionate woman. Everyone she met was greeted with a smile. Every goal she set was passionately pursued with an energy and vigor that was inspiring to those around her. Her most recent goal was to win a horse show on her horse, Indy. On March 14, 2010, she achieved that
goal. After 3 years of training and practice, missed spin counts and zero scores, Cindy was awarded the circuit championship in the "Non Pro Limited Boxing" class on Indy at the "Back to Basics" horse show in Rancho Murrieta. Her greatest loves, though, were her grandchildren. Often she would be seen with her grandchildren in tow, taking them to horse shows, to the snow
at their cabin, to the beach at the ocean, or to ice cream in town. After all, Cindy was known to her family as a big kid herself and was her grandchildren's biggest fan. Cindy is predeceased by her father, Paul Christman on April 22, 2001 and her mother, Ruth Christman on November 25, 2007. She is survived by her husband, Douglas Granade, her sons Robert Granade, Christopher
Granade and Timothy Granade and his wife Sandra Granade, her grandchildren Brennen, Courtney, LeCrista, Brittney, Tanner, Nathan, Marissa and Tyler, her sister Susan Christman, her brothers David Christman and Steven Christman, her horses Indy and Shiney, and her dog Max.
Cindy will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her. Donations can be made to El Dorado County 4-H in Cindy's name.
A viewing and rosary service will be held on Thursday, April 15th at 6:00 pm, Green Valley Mortuary and Cemetary located at 3004 Alexandrite Road, Rescue, CA. A funeral mass will be held on Friday, April 16th at 12:00 pm, Holy Trinity Church located at 3111 Tierra de Dios Drive, El Dorado Hills, CA followed by a graveside service at the
Green Valley Mortuary and Cemetery. Father Kanan shall preside over the ceremony. A reception shall follow the funeral service at the family's home in Shingle Springs.
