It states that John was in Co. L 5th Ga State Troops. This unit is said to have changed to Co. B 2nd Battalion. Further research indicates that he enlisted Aug 1863 in Co. A 9 Ga. Inf. State Guards, Capt. John T. Bowdoin's Co. (Putnam Vols.)

Gravesite Details
The Milledgeville, Ga Union and Recorder newspaper had a small write up after his death. This was taken from the Chronicle of Putnam Co. "Mr. John Haley died, a few days ago, of cancer of the mouth and tongue. He was an honest man."
