Tom S. Cabrera, 79, passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side on December 11, 2013, in Laveen, Arizona. Tom was born in Aragon, New Mexico and moved to Springerville, Arizona, where he met his beautiful wife. He retired from construction, after 35 years, at the age of 55. In his younger years he loved to bowl. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved hunting, fishing and camping. What he loved most was being with family and family gatherings. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years Ruth (Chavez) Cabrera; 5 children, Berlinda Corpora, Gail Savarese [Steve], LeiLani Bontrager [Duane], Peter Cabrera [Cathy] and Thomas Cabrera [Holly]; 19 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his grandson, Joshua James Savarese; his mother, Onofra [Saiz] Peralta; his father, Pedro Cabrera; and 3 brothers, Frankie Cabrera, Vidal Tafoya and Cruz Tafoya. A Celebration of Tom's Life will be held on Friday, December 20th at 1:00 p.m., at West Resthaven Funeral Home, 6450 W. Northern Avenue, Glendale, Arizona. Following the service a reception will be held at First Baptist Bible Church, 8490 W. Camelback Road, Glendale, Arizona 85305. In lieu of flowers and to honor his desire to protect and provide for children, the family is asking that a Christmas gift be purchased for a needy child or a donation be made to a children's charity such as St. Jude, Phoenix Children's Hospital, etc.
