Esther met her beloved husband of 70 years at the Galveston beach during World War II. Esther was a stay at home mother raising her family in a traditional Orthodox Jewish environment with Friday night dinner, Shabbat services, and celebration of Jewish holidays. Her joy was her family: daughters, Roberta Abelman and Sharon Gewertz, and son, Arthur Abelman and his wife, Susan. The apple of her eye was her one and only grandson, Nevin Gewertz, and future granddaughter, Jennifer Romig.
Esther carried many titles. To family and friends she was affectionately known as "Bubbie." As the matriarch of the family business she was known as, "Mrs. Beacon."
Esther's passion was sports, especially her Spurs. She also was fortunate to travel the world. She was a Life Member and Founder of Hadassah.
Esther is preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Dorothy Fradkin Bergman and Sophie Yambra and son-in-law, Martin Gewertz.
Esther is survived by her husband, Alvin; children, Roberta, Sharon and Arthur (Susan); grandson, Nevin; sister, Rose Edith Rosin; brother and sister-in-law, Joe and Lil Abelman; nieces Rosalyn Rosin, Peggy Shevlin and Karen Huff; nephews, Ronnie Yambra (Judy) and Jeffrey Rosin (Vinetta); and numerous other relatives, as well as her Beacon's family.
