MT. GILEAD: RICHARD H. DAWSON, 86, of Mt. Gilead passed away Sunday, December 8, 2013 in Woodside Village Care Center.

The son of Boyd and Iva (Leedy) Dawson, Richard was born August 9, 1927.

It was at a square dancing event in Johnsville that Richard first met Evagene Strong. In 1947 on a special July 4, Richard and Evagene were united in marriage.

A skilled carpenter, Richard used his talents to help friends and family with projects. He worked for Mansfield Tire, and was later employed by Tappan Company where he retired after 19 years. Upon his retirement, Richard and Evagene moved to Ft. Pierce, Florida, where he used his carpentry and maintenance skills to assist friends and neighbors.

After 12 years in Florida, Richard and Evagene moved back to Ohio to be closer to family.

Always up for a game of euchre, Richard loved playing cards. In his younger years he fished at Lake Erie, and later in life enjoyed fishing in Florida.

He is survived by his wife Evagene Dawson of Mt. Gilead; daughters Mary Ann (Glen) Ruhl of Iron City, North Carolina, Sharon (Terry) Manley of Mt. Gilead, and Eugenia (Phil) Williams of Nashville, Tennessee; grandchildren Rich Manley and his fiancée Stacie, Mindy (Doug) Sinclair, Candy Richardson, Rosie Ruhl (friend Tommy), Travis Williams; great-grandchildren Kaylee and Kasidee Sinclair, Katie, Nick, Michael Richardson; siblings Doris Karns of Findlay, Wayne Dawson of Florida, Betty Connell of Columbus; along with numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his grandson Guy Ruhl; four brothers, Boyd, Walter, Raymond, and Alfred Dawson, and sister Mary Jane Cleveland.

The Dawson family will receive friends Friday, December 13, 2013 from 1-3 p.m. in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home where funeral services will begin at 3 p.m. Burial will follow in Shauck Cemetery.

Memorial contributions to the Johnsville Fire Department or Morrow County Hospice may be made through the funeral home.
