Born in Altrincham, Cheshire, England UK.


Son of William & Mary Jane Aldcroft (nee Speakman).

In 1901 John lived at 12 King Street, Altrincham. His father was a Plasterer's Labourer who was born in Altrincham circa 1868 - 1905. His mother was also born in Altrincham circa 1869 - ?.


John Arthur Aldcroft was a British Home Child emigrated to Canada by Annie MacPherson Homes. On May 6, 1909, John Arthur Aldcroft with siblings Martha Aldcroft and George Aldcroft, departed Liverpool aboard the Tunisian, arriving in Quebec on May 20, 1909. From there the 3 siblings travelled with their travel party (a group of 19 children) to Marchmont Home in Belleville, Ontario.


His Canadian attestation form states that he was a Rubber Worker by trade. His religion was Methodist and his next of kin was his mother living at Regent Road, Altrincham, Cheshire.

John's brother, George Herbert Aldcroft served WW1, Canadian Forces, Regimental # 805003. George Herbert was also a British Home Child. George died in California on April 30, 1982.


Sister Martha Aldcroft, also a British Home Child. Martha married George Randolph Pickston in Toronto, Ontario in 1914.


Brother James Aldcroft served WW1, British Forces, he was (not a British Home Child). James also died WW1.

Mother was found in the 1911 UK census, widow, a boarder and with daughter Bessie Aldcroft age 9 and son William Aldcroft, age 3. Mary Jane Speakman Aldcroft re-married to Samuel Winkley in 1926 in Bucklow district, Cheshire. Mary Jane Winkley died in 1932, Bucklow, Cheshire.
