Ellis Lee Ganey was born to William Henry "Will" Ganey and Sarah Emily "Sallie" (Milstead) Ganey on March 1st, 1905. He died on March 2nd, 1980, the day after his 75th birthday celebration. His wife of 43 years, Madge (Morrison) Ganey, is buried beside him.

Ellis grew up in Louisiana, and at the age of 18 married his first wife, Amy Rosier. This union bore two children: Gladys Juanita Ganey and E.L. Ganey (Jr). In 1930, his wife Amy appears with her two children on the census record in Catahoula Parish, Louisiana as a boarder in the house of Charlie H Philipps, and as "widowed", but Ellis was not deceased. They were divorced and Ellis had moved to Texas. Amy Rosier Ganey then married Ellis' cousin Arthur James Ganey on 05 Dec 1931.

Ellis moved from Louisiana to Beaumont, Texas, where he worked as a welder for the Shipyards. In Beaumont, he married Mary Edmona (Kerr) Marsden, a widow with children. This union bore a daughter in Beaumont, Texas, who died on the same day she was born: Sept. 3rd, 1935. The couple divorced sometime soon after.

While in Beaumont, Ellis met his wife of 43 years, Madge Esther Morrison. Madge Morrison had attended Graduate School at Northwestern University and was working as the head of the English Department at South Park High School. The couple met in Beaumont, then married and resided in Abliene, Texas. This union bore a daughter in 1939, Lily Virginia "Jena" Ganey, who grew up in Abilene and in 1961 married her high school beau, Paul Edward Stubbs. Ellis welcomed his daughter's husband, Paul Stubbs, in to the family with loving care. He offered the same love and care for his three grandchildren: David, Leah, and Emily.

While living in Abilene, Ellis became involved in his wife's family business in the Peanut Plant Industry. After the death of his father-in-law, Ellis opened his own Peanut Plant in Abilene, Texas: The Ganey Peanut Plant.
