Anna Jewell Rice, age 91, passed away Thursday, October 24, 2013 at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, October 26, 2013 at McCoy Chapel of Memories with the Rev. Jerry Payne officiating. Burial will follow at Sweetwater Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.

Anna, better known as Ann, was born in Hermleigh, Texas December 16, 1921 to Andrew Jackson and Tessie Zorn Mahoney. She married Joe M. Rice October 28, 1940 in Sweetwater.

Anna attended Hermleigh schools and was a former member of Cottonwood TEEA Club. She has been a member of Lamar Street Baptist Church since 1962 and was in the Esther Sunday School Class. Anna moved to Sweetwater from Hermleigh in 1940. She had worked at M'System Grocery Store and in the cafeteria at John H. Reagan Junior High School in Sweetwater.

She is survived by her three sons Joe M. Rice, Jr. of Richland Hills, Texas, Michael L. Rice and Daniel G. Rice both of Sweetwater. She has four grandchildren Julie Crowsey of Savannah, Texas, Janet Sanders and husband Michael of Pilot Point, Texas, Jeff Rice of Denton, Texas, Brandon Rice of Irving, Texas and six great grandchildren Nathan Sanders, Keaton Sanders, Jacob Crowsey, Ashlyn Crowsey, Colton Crowsey and Katlin Crowsey all of Pilot Point, Texas. She is also survived by her sister Tessie Riggs of Buckeye, Arizona and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Joe M. Rice, Sr., a grandson Jason Rice, her parents, five sisters Josie Patterson, Viola Dever, Edith Harris, Faye Murphy, Helen Felty and two brothers E.R. Mahoney and A.J. Mahoney.

Pallbearers will be U.S. Burton, J.C. "Butch" Stroman, Randy Hanes, Dale Finch, Jimmy Davis and Jack Kennedy. Honorary Pallbearer is A.J. Scott.
