WEBB, ANDREE Andre Webb, born in Paris, France, August 6, 1922, died September 26, 2005, at Memorial Hospital, Santa Rosa. Daughter of Gabriel and Marcelle Bonno, she grew up in Paris and Berkeley where her father was a professor of French at the University of California. She learned English (and later taught French) at Anna Head School in Berkeley and graduated from Berkeley High and Cal where she was a Pi Phi and met her husband, Charles R. Webb, a jazz musician. The couple moved to Boston while he completed his doctorate in history at Harvard. They lived in California while he taught at San Diego State University and she was active with the Old Globe Shakespeare Theater. After C.R. held several other positions within the California State University system, they returned to the East Coast on his appointment as President of Eastern Connecticut State University. Active in university affairs, Andre initiated a major campus beautification project and established a program for women that continues to this day. And she found time to co-produce "Ambiance Francaise," a French language radio program in Connecticut. After 18 years at Eastern, they returned to California and enjoyed a happy and active retirement in Santa Rosa where she joined the Alliance Francaise, the Symphony League and many other organizations. Andre had a joie de vivre that was boundless and everyone who met her could feel it. She loved flowers, conversation, political and philosophic discourse, and interaction with other people. She was universally loved as well. And above all she loved her family and many friends. Truly a product of two cultures, she reflected the best qualities of both. Her charm, beauty and grace, enhanced by bilingual skills and considerable travel in Europe and North Afiica, together with Old World sensibilities contributed to her happy and complete life. She also thoroughly enjoyed the academic world as a daughter, wife, and topnotch student, wherever it took her. Regardless of where she was, or whom she met, or how she felt, her spark was always with her, even at the end. In addition to her husband of 61 years, Andre is survived by their son, Charles Richard Webb III (also known as the landscape painter Richard Webb McDaniel), his wife Georgia, and by her brother, Charles Bonno and his Susan. The six of them enjoyed each other enormously; Andre also has several nieces, nephews and cousins here and abroad. Services will be held at Star of the Valley Catholic Church, 545 White Oak Drive, Santa Rosa, at 2:00 PM on Friday, September 30 with private interment at Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Santa Rosa. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to the American Cancer Society or the American Institute for Cancer Research.
