Roger Lee "George" Chattam, 58, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Sunday afternoon, September 8, 2013 at Leoti Hospital in Leoti, Kansas.

Born October 2, 1954 in Winfield, Kansas, he was the son of Raymond Howard Chattam and Lois Faye Collier. He was raised and received his education in Winfield. While in school, he enjoyed helping his grandfather on the family farm.

George married Judy Rising on August 2, 1978 in Newkirk, Oklahoma. The couple made their home in Winfield and to this union two children were born. The couple later divorced. George continued working as a farmer and cattle hauler for several farms in Cowley County. He spent a short time working as a driller in the oil fields before returning to farming and cattle hauling. Eventually, he worked full time as a truck driver hauling cattle.

He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #3544. He enjoyed working for charitable causes, riding his Harley and loved kayaking on the river and spending time with his buddies.

His family includes: His fiance: Debi Coon of Winfield; His daughter: Kamra Bodkins and husband, Darin of Arkansas City; His son: Colt Chattam and wife, Chelsey of Derby; His mother: Lois Collier of Winfield; His father: Raymond Chattam of Burden; His brothers: James Chattam of Winfield; Jeff Chattam of Burden; His sisters: Brenda Randall of Winfield; Kimberly Chattam of Winfield; His grandchildren: Gage and Hunter Bodkins of Arkansas City, Kooper and Kenlee Chattam of Derby, and McKenzie Bodkins of California; and Numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his grandparents, he was preceded in death by his step-father, Joel Collier.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, September 12, 2013 at 10:00 A.M. at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Interment will follow at Wilmot Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 4 to 8 P.M. The family will greet visitors from 4 to 6 that evening.

A Memorial has been established in George's name for the VFW Post #3544. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
