JOHN POLLY2 MARTIN (EDMOND1) was born May 1805 in Halifax County, Virginia, and died 30 Nov 1891 in Spartanburg, Spartanburg County, South Carolina. He married ELIZABETH BOMAR Abt. 1830 in South Carolina, daughter of EDWARD BOMAR and MARY WOOD. She was born 06 Apr 1799 in Halifax County, Virginia, and died 18 Jul 1864 in Spartanburg, South Carolina.

Not much is known about John Polly Martin. His son, Thomas Booker Martin, in a eloquent article about the Bomar family mentioned that his father was a cabinet maker by trade. He was a stout and strong man which "few could take."
Was a cabinetmaker living in Greenville, South Carolina in 1830. In 1840-1880 he lived in Spartanburg Co. South Carolina. Served in the Confederate States Army, Holcombe's Legion, Co. C. as a private. He was discharged on disability being 56 years of age. In 1830 he lived with his twin brother Thomas in Greenville Co., South Carolina.
