Haywood B. "Willie" Williams, of Avon Park passed away on August 24, 2013. He was the husband of 64 years to Kathryn "Kacky" Curry Williams. Haywood was born in Malvern, Arkansas, July 20, 1929, the son of the late Haywood B. Williams, Sr. and Lucy Williams. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War, serving in the Navy and Army. After his retirement, he worked for the Avon Park Correctional Institution for 24 years as a corrections officer where he was the supervisor of the Horticulture Nursery. He enjoyed working with local garden clubs, documenting the bluebird trail on the Avon Park Air Force Base, delivering meals for Meals on Wheels and spending time with his family and friends. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and VFW, he was of the Protestant faith and had been a resident of Avon Park since 1952 coming from Saline, Louisiana. Survivors: Kathryn Williams; daughters-Cindy McGee (Mark), Amy Ferrill (Blake) and Wanda Hoolihan (Brian); 2 grandchildren and 2 great grandsons; a step-granddaughter and a step-grandson.
Visitation will take place Thursday, August 29, 2013 from 9:30 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. at the Stephenson-Nelson Funeral Home with services beginning at 11:00 A.M. Burial will follow in Fort Kissimmee Cemetery at the Avon Park Air Force Base. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Good Shepherd Hospice House, 1110 Hammock Road, Sebring, Florida 33870.
