Evelyn A. Barron, 93, of Glecker Road died Nov. 22, 2000, at her residence after a long illness. She was born in Waldoboro, a daughter of Albert and Nina Creamer Genthner, and graduated from Waldoboro High School in 1926. She graduated from State Street Hospital School of Nursing in 1929. She was supervisor and director of nursing service at Portland City Hospital for 28 years before retiring. The hospital was her life's work. It was later renamed Barren Center in honor of her husband, Matthew I. Barron, administrator of the hospital for many years. Mr. Barron died May 5, 1980. Mrs. Barron was a member of the Waldoboro High School Alumni Association, Alumnae Association of Dr. Drummond's Hospital and the American Nurses Association. She was a past member of the Maine Hospital Association and the New England Hospital Assembly, and past president of St. Joseph's Academy Mothers Club. Surviving are a daughter, Bonnie Jane O'Reilly of Portland; two sons, Brian Patrick Barron and Br. Bruce Joseph Barron both of Portland; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Visiting hours will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Conroy-Tully South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway. Prayers will be said at 11:15 a.m. Saturday at the Chapel followed by a noon funeral Mass at St. Joseph's Church. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
