Ada's mother was Ella Quinn.

Ada is first seen in the 1900 census, living in James, Bibb County, Alabama with her father, Andrew and siblings Ida, Rush, Amanda and Sophia. Her father worked as a farmer and was listed as widowed, so it is assumed Ella Quinn Hargrove died in Alabama some time prior to 1900.

By 1910, Andrew had remarried, to Delilah 'Delia' Henry. They remained in Bibb County, Alabama and reside there with Ada and her siblings Rush, Amanda 'Mandy', Willie, Beatrice and Elias.

In 1913, Ada married Charles Wesley Allen and by 1920, they resided in Smith Hill, Bibb County, Alabama, with their children Mary Etta, Lula B. and Jess. Charlie's occupation is listed as coal miner. In 1930, they remained in Bibb County and had the following children in their home: Ada, Mary Etta, Lula B, Jessie, Adella, Hezekiah and Millard F.

By 1940, the Allen's had relocated to Tuscaloosa, Alabama and Adella, Wesley and Millard were still at home. Charles died in 1944 - it is unknown when the family relocated to Coshocton County, Ohio
