Tommy was killed in a mine explosion at Old Ben Mine #8 in West Frankfort, IL. Twenty-seven coal miners were killed along with him in this underground explosion, federal mine inspectors said ignition of gas caused the blast.

He was 25 years old lived at 109 North Dorris St. and survived by his wife, Juanita Shaw Boyer and a son, Larry Dean, age 2 and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Boyer, all of this city.

Funeral services were held at East Fork Church with Rev, Guy Tackett and Rev. Smith Williams officiating.
Body laid in state at home of parents.
