WARE - Stanley J. Windyka, 84, of 5 Mountainview Drive, died Tuesday, January 16, 2007 at Wingate at Wilbraham. He was born in Ware, son of the late Blaise and Nellie (Dendor) Windyka, and was a life-long resident. He worked for the American Athletic Shoe Co., Inc., in Ware before his retirement in 1987. Previously, he worked at the former Kleven's Shoe Co. in Spencer for many years. Stanley was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of W.W. II, serving in the South and Central Pacific Theaters of Operations. He participated in action against the enemy at Betis, Tarrana, Atoll and the Gilbert Islands and the Tinian and Marianas Islands Campaigns. He was awarded the Presidential Citation, 2nd Marines Division, the Asiatic Pacific Medal with two stars, and earned two Purple Hearts when he was wounded in action in the Marianas Islands. He was a member of the Marine Corps League and a former member of the V.F.W. Post 2577 in Ware. Stanley's hobbies were gardening and woodworking. He was a communicant of St. Mary's Church in Ware. He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Victoria S. (Price) Windyka; his three daughters; Linda Pellissier and her husband, Joseph, and Michelle Milligan and her husband Mark, all of Ware; and Elizabeth Plourde and her husband Scott of Holiday, Florida; two brothers: Albin Windyka and his wife Mary, and Walter Windyka and his wife Emily of Ware; a sister, Sophie Mongeau and her husband Lionel of Orlando, Florida; seven grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Stanley's funeral services will be held Monday, January 22, 2007 at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Church, Ware. There are no calling hours. Cebula Funeral Home, Ware, has been entrusted with his arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Eastern Paralyzed Veterans Association.
