ROBERT A. McLAUGHLIN , 78, of Englewood Lane, a retired railway car inspector and racetrack money clerk, died Sunday at home, after an illness.
He was the husband of Elizabeth C. (McGettrick) McLaughlin . Born in Providence, a son of the late Augustus H. and Eva P. (Turcotte) McLaughlin , he had lived in Warwick for 51 years.
Mr. McLaughlin had been a car inspector for the Penn Central and Conrail Railroads for 41 years, until retiring in 1982, and had also been a money clerk for many years at Lincoln Downs and the Narragansett Raceway.
He was a member of the Transport Workers Union.
An Army veteran of World War, he served in Europe, Africa and the Middle East, and participated in the D-Day landing.
Mr. McLaughlin was a communicant of St. Peter Church.
Besides his wife, he leaves two sons, Robert A. McLaughlin of Coventry and John K. McLaughlin of Milwaukee, Wis.; three daughters, Karen A. McLaughlin of Marblehead, Mass., Elizabeth A. McLaughlin of Nahant, Mass., and Sheila K. McLaughlin of Lynn, Mass.; a brother, Dr. John McLaughlin of Washington, D.C.; and five grandchildren.
The funeral will be held on Thursday at 9 a. m. from the Thomas & Walter Quinn Funeral Home, 2435 Warwick Ave., with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 in St. Peter Church, Fair Street. Burial, with military honors, will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Providence.
