Myrtle Sophronia McClanahan was the only daughter of six children born to John Penman McClanahan and Amanda Loucretia "Mandy/Lula" Nix.

From her mother's prior marriage to Wayne Harvey McClanahan, Myrtle had three half-brothers: John Wesley, William "Willie" Austin and Jesse "Jess" Harvey McClanahan. These half-brother were also her first cousins, as her mother had married McClanahan brothers.

Myrtle married to Mack Burton Spivey on 15 Aug 1915, in Bangs, Brown County, Texas. They had two daughters: Ada Gwendolyn "Nig" Spivey and Waynne Lois "Billie" Spivey. Mack and Myrtle divorced about 1932.

Myrtle moved to Los Angeles about April, 1942; she was working there for the U.S. Government when she was struck down by a passenger bus while disembarking from a local city bus.
