Crowell was born in Crittendon County, Ky. He was married to Maggie Sullivan in Kentucky over fifty years ago. Crowell was the father of ten daughters, sis of whom survive besides his widow.
The daughters are: Mrs. W.C. McCuthcheon of West Frankfort; Mrs Ed Guthrie of Herrin; Mrs Al Hart, Mrs Scott Brake and Mrs John Auld of Chicago and Mrs Vincent Carder of E. St Louis.
The body laid in state at the home and funeral rites were observed from Crowell home with Rev. Ross Smith, Pastor of Trinity Methodist Church in charge. Interment in Denning Cemetery.
