--- Mother of 3; Community Volunteer; Accounting Bookkeeper ---
----------------------------------------------

Longtime Oklahoma resident, Sharon Kay Owens, aged 71, has passed away of long term complications from diabetes.

Sharon Kay was born in Barnsdall, 1942, to Pete and Maxine Brown. She was raised there on the family's farm near Bird Creek until her upper high school years; then the family moved to Seminole Texas with the oil boom. Kay later returned to Oklahoma to marry the special boyfriend she'd left behind. She and Carl raised a family and made their home in the Collinsville and Vera areas for many years. As her health declined, Kay moved to Fort Worth Texas to be near her daughter Jamie.

Kay was a mother, homemaker, bookkeeper, and a generous volunteer. She dedicated herself to community projects such as Sunday school teacher, den mother, youth activities leader, and Senior Citizen activities coordinator. Kay worked productively all her life. Besides being a great cook, she gardened with a green thumb, canned her homegrown foods, and during the 1970's, sewed all the new clothing for her family. She had the compassion of a nurse and cared for her parents, and her grandmothers with their end of life care. When she became a grandparent, "Granny Kay" enjoyed telling family stories and nurturing her grandchildren. She held them close in her heart and thought of them as most precious, always desiring the best for their futures.

Memorial will be held 10:30 am, Saturday, July 13, at the 1st Christian Church of Vera. Internment will follow at Ethel Reese Cemetery. Kay said she would be most honored if, in lieu of flowers, donations were made to American Diabetes Association; http://www.diabetes.org/ or 1-800-DIABETES.
