Services for Nannette Atkins will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 3, 2013, at Hilliard Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the service. A graveside service will follow in Kennedy Family Cemetery in the Jackson community.
Mrs. Atkins passed away at the age of 91 on July 1, 2013.
Nannette Kennedy Atkins was born Sept. 30, 1921, in the Jackson community, south of Canton to the late George T. Kennedy and Carmen Mitchell Kennedy. She had been a resident of Arlington for 11 years, previously living in Van Zandt County. Nannette received both her bachelor's and master's degrees in education from East Texas State University in Commerce. She was a schoolteacher for 38 years, teaching in Van for 30 years and Lindale for eight years. She enjoyed sewing, quilting and traveling. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, Van Zandt County Retired Teachers, Friends of Van Zandt County Library, Order of the Eastern Star, Van Fine Arts Club, Mathea Club, and First Baptist Church of Van.
Mrs. Atkins was preceded in death by her husband, C.J. Atkins.
Survivors include her daughter, Claudette Terilli and husband Jim, of McKinney; son, Claude James "Jim" Atkins Jr. and wife Leah, of Arlington; and four grandchildren, Peter Terilli, of Dallas, Cameron Atkins, of Arlington, Laurel Atkins Neuman and husband David, of Austin, and Matthew Terilli, of Dallas.
Sons and grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
