Member of Police Jury For 20 Years Was Highly Esteemed
John E. Dailey, 79, was buried yesterday afternoon in Catholic Cemetery at Grand Coteau after services at the Sacred Heart Church with Father Latiolais officiating. Mr. Dailey, for years a parish leader of his section, died Monday morning after a long illness.
Acting as pall bearers at the funeral services were six of Mr. Dailey's sons, John W., T.M., H.C., R.R., J.T., and Owen Dailey. The love and respect that Mr. Dailey commanded through his sterling worth of character and long life of service was evidenced by the large number of friends and admirers present for the services.
Mr. Dailey is survived by sixteen children. They are John W., T.M. and Alex Dailey, Austin, Texas; P.A., H.C., E.L., R.R., J.T., Owen Dailey, Mrs. Merle Whetley, Mrs. O.B. Baker, and Mrs. Tucker, of Port Arthur, Texas; Mrs. F.P. Heiss, Alexandria; Mrs. Frank Richard, Port Barre; Mrs. C.V. Jeter, Dallas, Texas, and Robert Daily, connected with the United States Navy and located in Washington, D.C.
Mr. Dailey was a respected citizen of his ward all his life. He was an active farmer and family man. For 20 years he was a member of the St. Landry Parish Police Jury. His death brings grief to hundreds of friends. He was critically ill for only two weeks before the end came though he had not been very active for the past six years.
