Martha was a daughter of Jeremiah Ferguson and Polly Louise McGee. She married William Marley in 1875. After William died young leaving her with small children to raise on her own, she farmed and was a midwife.

People who knew Martha said she had bright red hair and that she attended her church on a regular basis. It is too bad that the only picture found for Martha was taken when she was old. Her daughters were beautiful.
