Jerry Don “J.D.” Johnson, age 44, passed away Friday, June 17, 2005, in Odessa.
Jerry was born in Dixon, Mo., Sept. 13, 1960. But he didn’t fully breathe life until he met his angel “Miss Linda.” She was the greatest love he ever knew. They had their first daughter, Jessica Reneé, in 1979. Jerry affectionately nicknamed this strong-willed child “little Jerry Don.” Jerry had his next most proud moment in life in 1980, when Jennifer Michelle was born. “Jenni Pooh” kept Jerry laughing with her comic relief. Jerry’s highest goal was to provide a comfortable, joyful life for his girls. “Jenni Pooh” and “Juice” were his greatest accomplishments. We are proud and thankful to have loved him for as long as we had him.
Jerry had a special calling “to serve and protect” that led him to pursue a career in law enforcement. He always fought for the underdog. We cannot sum up this great man’s life in a column. He lived out loud. He loved the Lord. He gave all he had… and that’s enough. May you rest in the arms of your Saviour forever. He married Linda Mae Jackson April 5, 1980, in Kansas City, Kan., and was a police officer with the Odessa Police Department. He was a member of the Mid-Cities Community Church.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Johnson of Odessa; daughters, Jessica Reneé Phillips and husband, Brad, of Odessa, and Jennifer Michelle Edwards and husband, Jack, of Katy; mother, Polly Johnson of Fort Worth; and brothers, Hubert Bull and Robert Johnson, both of Fort Worth, and John Johnson and wife, Delores, of Odessa.
Services will be at 10 a.m. today, June 22, at Mid-Cities Community Church with the Rev. Griffin Jones, of Temple Baptist Church, officiating and Kevin York, of Mid-Cities Community Church, assisting.
Pallbearers will be: Alan Hunt, Mike Horton, Charlie Veach, Tom Carlisle, Freddie Nayola and Brian LaBombard.
Services are entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
