Raymond A. Letendre, Sr., our dad, 77, of Middlefield, MA, was surrounded by his loving family when he was called home to be with Jesus on June 5, 2013. He was born and raised in Fall River, MA, son of the late Louis and Yvonne (Renaud) Letendre. In 1953, he enlisted in the United States Army National Guard. He proudly served as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division, 503rd Infantry, at Fort Bragg, NC. He proudly served his country during the Korean War period. Upon his return, he married his childhood sweetheart Barbara Fernandes. They relocated to Hartford, Connecticut, and later built their life together for 23 years in Windsor Locks. They were blessed with five children: Raymond, Susan (deceased shortly after birth), Duane, Alan and Celeste.

In his earlier years, Dad took pride in becoming the top sales consultant for Brown & Bigelow. Later, pursuing a career change, he became a self-employed contractor who enjoyed working with his hands in his craft of carpentry. He made a name for himself rehabbing historical buildings and residential housing. He took great pleasure in the peace that the outdoors gave him. He loved to find the perfect quiet stream to fish in, proudly planned out his crops for his picturesque gardens, and loved sitting by an open fire shooting the breeze with whoever would listen.

Ray was survived by a sister Delores (Del) Gauthier of Enfield, CT and brother Roger of Enfield, CT. He was predeceased by brothers Arthur (AJ), Henry (Hank) and Norman Letendre.

Dad was a loving father to his sons Raymond Letendre Jr., of Middlefield, MA; Duane Letendre and wife Laurel of Windsor, CT; Alan Letendre and wife Dawn of Granby, CT and his daughter Celeste and husband Steven Lefebvre of East Hartland, CT. Dad was a cherished grandfather to Paige Letendre Brueckner and husband Kyle, Morgan Letendre, Sarah Lefebvre and Sean Lefebvre. He also was an adoring great-grandfather to Riley Brueckner and Vik Brueckner.

Ray also leaves his dear friends The Peter Pan Boys and the Wednesday luncheon crew. The family extends a special thanks to the Medical Teams at the West Haven and Newington CT Veteran Hospitals. Ray's children also express a special thanks to Dad's caregivers, Heather and Marge, who were such a blessing.

Friends and family are asked to gather for a memorial service to be held on Wednesday, June 12, 2013 promptly at 1:00pm, at the Massachusetts Veterans' Memorial Cemetery 1390 Main St. Agawam, MA. Ludlow Funeral Home and Cremation Tribute Center has been entrusted with his arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Raymond's memory to "Home for ourTroops." homeforourtroops.org
