Eldest daughter of Charles Wetherald and Estella Albro, Helen attended the University of Michigan and received a degree in Liberal Arts. While in college at age 19, she married Paul Burton, son of the University's President. They established a household in Highland Park and had three children. They also had a cottage at Mullet Lake, near the Wetherald cottage. Tragically, they lost their second born child, Nancy Jane, who drown in the lake. Possibly, this tragedy was a factor in the divorce of Helen & Paul. Anyway, Helen raised her remaining children to become college graduates and have families of their own. Helen loved geology and antiques and could relate these interests to others with ease.

Her children are:
Margaret Helen Burton Ryan 1933 - 2002
Nancy Jane Burton 1933 - 1937
Paul Leonard Burton, Jr. (living)
