Reverend George A. Schultz, Jr., 75, of Seguin answered the call from his Lord and Savior on Friday February 20, 2009. He was born April 29, 1933 near Oak Forrest in Gonzales County to Minnie Stehle Schultz and George A. Schultz, Sr. As a youth George had a paper route, enjoyed fishing and even built a boat.

Along with his good friend Oscar Thompson, he felt the call from the Lord to become a "fisher of men." He and Oscar began preaching the gospel on the local Gonzales radio station. He graduated from the Gonzales School System in 1951 and received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Baylor University. He worked toward a Master's Degree from Baylor before the Lord directed him into full time Evangelism and Ministry. For over 50 years Rev. George A. Schultz, Jr., preached the Gospel in churches and revivals throughout the South. He was well versed in the teachings of the Bible and had instant recall of passage after passage of scripture that he would share to celebrate the love of Jesus Christ. George pastored in Cuero and later Wrightsboro in the early years while managing his own cattle feedlot and holding revivals sometimes into the wee hours of the morning. "Brother George" as he was widely known, pastored the First Baptist Church of Seguin for over 15 years and in that time built a new sanctuary for the church, it has been said "Schultz could aptly be considered ‘Seguin's Pastor,'" Bro. George also pastored in Hallettsville, and the Kingsbury Baptist Church, the Amazing Grace Baptist Church in Seguin, and of late the Country Chapel where services were held in the Silver Center in Seguin. Brother George ministered to people of all denominations, churched or unchurched, and has officiated more funerals throughout the years that many families felt they could not have a proper funeral without the comforting words of Brother George Schultz.

He loved to work with his hands, whether it was tending his cattle, building fence or building his home "with God's strength" on Hwy 90 in Seguin, or a home for his niece and family on Montclair Street, his hands were never idle. If he wasn't building, tending his cattle, holding the hand of humanity, then his hands were folded in prayer.

Often at the grave of a funeral service George would be officiating, he would quote Rev. 22:17 "And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that is athirst Come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely." On February 20, 2009 while working his cattle, Brother George drank freely from the water of life. Amen.

He is survived by his sister, Perdetha Schultz Gloor (Leroy Otto Gloor Sr.) of Cuero, niece, Teresa Gloor Vandegriff (Robert) of Seguin, great nieces and nephews, Elizabeth Robbins (Arlie, Jr.), Tabitha Vandegriff, B.J. Vandegriff, Samantha Vandegriff, great-great nieces and nephews, Cody Robbins, Dylan Robbins and Emily Robbins, and dear friend and care giver, Eloise Correll of Seguin. He was preceded in death by his parents and nephew, Leroy Otto Gloor, Jr.

The family will receive friends at Seydler-Hill Funeral Home in Gonzales from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, February 24. Funeral services will be held at the First Baptist Church in Seguin on Wednesday, February 25, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Jeremy Roy, Rev. Brice Mandville, Rev. David Jackson, and Rev. A. C. Neuman officiating. Serving as pallbearers will be Steve Stautzenberger, Harold Morgan, B. J. Vandegriff, Ronnie Menking, Conley Willmann, Trey Fohn, Arlie Robbins, and John Shanley. Honorary pallbearers are Mike Holcomb and Byron Freeman.

Burial will be in the Monthalia Methodist Cemetery near Cost. Memorials may be made to the Bluebonnet Youth Ranch, P. O. Box 90, Yoakum, Texas 77995. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Seydler-Hill Funeral Home of Gonzales.
