President of the Southern California Baptist Convention in 1914. Trustee for 40 years at the University of Redlands. He also pastored in Chattanooga, TN, Portland OR, Oakland CA and Boston MA. He held 6 honorary doctorates. Personal friend of Hubert Eaton of Forest Lawn Glendale. Appeared in an episode of "You Bet Your Life" with Groucho Marx in 1960. The other contestant being the mother of Rocky Marciano. It can be viewed on YouTube. He performed the wedding of Douglas Fairbanks Sr. and Mary Pickford and officiated at the funeral of Will Rogers.
