Ashley died of leukemia on November 19, 2001 at 8:20 A.M. She received a bone marrow transplant at a children's hospital in Oakland, but it was unsuccessful. She was described as a strong, upbeat girl who turned her hospital room into a playground and her bed into a trampoline.

With the help of the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Ashley was able to meet her idol Britney Spears just two days before she passed away. Donations (many from her dad's UPS coworkers) to help pay Ashley's medical bills were collected through the Angel Kiss Foundation. Ashley was a beautiful little girl who will be greatly missed by many people.
