John Campbell, born Oct. 7, 1923, lived out his days at his home in Baton Rouge where he died Saturday, July 10, 2010. John Campbell was a retired contractor and most favored of all, an airman. John was a veteran of World War II, having served as a flight instructor in the U.S. Army Air Forces. John loved his family, friends, work, the outdoors and his flight memories. John was married to Ellen Cuthbertson for 40 years. John leaves his wife, Ellen; son, William "Bill" Campbell; and daughter, Sarah Campbell DeLatte. He was predeceased by his beloved children, Ellen Campbell Searcey and John Allan Campbell Jr. John developed Alzheimer's in the last year of his life and lived out some wonderful fantasies and memories of his life. He was supported and loved by many family members and friends. He took with him his favorite crooked stick. We give special thanks for Dr. Mike Rolfsen, Dr. Bryan Griffith, Dr. Joe Deumite and Dr. Angelo Annallaro who were friends and great physicians to the end. A private memorial service will be held at St. Luke's Episcopal Church with family. "Oh, I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth, and danced the skies on laughter silvered wings I've topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace, where never lark or even eagle flew and while with silent, lifting mind I've trod the high untrespassed sanctity of space, put out my hand, and touched the face of God." Memorial donations may be sent to Hospice of Baton Rouge, 9063 Siegen Lane, Suite A, Baton Rouge, LA 70810.
