Successful in business and spectacular in his manner of living Stue Engle became a national figure. From a hardworking millhand at the Engle wholesale flour plant here to later become its owner. Mr. Engle was born in Hazleton, son of George W. and Caroline Rhoades Engle. A shrewd and thrifty businessman Mr Engle branched into other lines and business and venture into the baking field. He had plants in Hazleton,Shamokin and Norristown. He built a home on South Church St. where he resided until his move from the city. His parents home was on Laurel and Hemlock Streets. In 1920 Mr. Engle after having received a specially designed automobile left with his family and a party of friends for California. Mr. Engle went into a life of retirement in Atlantic City and his palatial home at Delancy Place at the seashore resort was always thrown open as a haven to Hazleton residents. Mr. Engle died in his Atlantic City Night Club April 1, 1942 at age 57.
