Clarence "Smokey" Fessler

Clarence "Smokey" Fessler, 96, of Macon, MO, passed away Sunday, March 31, 2013, at the Oakview Cottage in Macon. Clarence was born on April 26, 1916, in Wien, MO, the son of Anton "Tony" and Ann (Schilz) Fessler. He served in the United States Army during World War II. Clarence was united in marriage to Caronia "Connie" Steffes on July 27, 1944, in Salinas, CA. She preceded him in death on July 28, 1987. He later married Mary Mildred (Mattson) Huber on May 6, 1989, in Wien. She preceded him in death on July 24, 1997. He co-owned and operated Fessler and Dunn Equipment for many years in Macon. Clarence was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Macon, lifelong member of the Knights of Columbus and the Lion's Club, member of the American Legion Post 29 and the Longbranch Camper's Club. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, dancing, and especially spending time with his family. Clarence is survived by his three children, Ron Fessler and his wife Donna, Dennis Fessler, and Bette Pillers and her husband Gary all of Macon, seven grandchildren, Doug Fessler and his wife Vicki, Ryan Fessler and his wife Jaime, Justin Fessler and his wife Jamie, Chris Fessler, all of Columbia, MO, and Nate Pillers and his wife Tegan of Macon, James Mayhew and his wife Kathi of Mexico, MO, and Machera Young of Macon, eight great-grandchildren, Sidney, Cody, Brett, Brayden, Kolten, Boden, Ava, and Stephanie, two step-children, Kenny Huber and his wife Nina of Wien, and Patricia Bowe and her husband Randy of Savannah, MO, two half sisters, Genevieve McGraw and her husband Don of Lee's Summit, MO, and Benedictine Sister Mary Ann Fessler of Atchison, KS, and other step-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews, and in-laws. He was preceded in death by his parents, two wives, five brothers, Lawrence, Andrew, Leo, Wilford, and Virgil, and an infant sister, Irene. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 am, Thursday, April 4, 2013, at the Immaculate Conception Church in Macon with Father Dave Veit officiating. Burial will be in the St. Mary's Cemetery in Macon. A Prayer and Rosary service will begin at 4:30 pm, Wednesday, with a visitation to follow from 5-8 pm at the Immaculate Conception Church. The family suggests memorials to the Immaculate Conception Church, the Immaculate Conception Catholic School, or the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Hutton & McElwain Funeral Home in Macon.
