Sometime relatively soon after the Civil War Lorenzo Melton found himself in a brawl. He thought he had killed his opponent. As a result, he and his wife Letitia Littleton took off. In the process he changed his name to David Wesley Williams. And she to Cassie Anna Davis. Their descendants, descendants of William P and Holland (Avery) Elizabeth Melton, still carry on that Williams name. They are also the only MELTON descendants, thus far, to have photos of their ancestors of this generation.
