Funeral services for Mrs. S. H. Sylvester were held Sunday afternoon at four o’clock from the Methodist church with Rev. L. S. Ellison, pastor, officiating. Interment was at G. A. R. cemetery. Flower bearers were Mrs. Nellie McPherren; Misses Jean Harte; Mary and Hortense Hopkins; Anna Taylor and Alma Henderson. Mrs. Sylvester became poorly while at Coatsville, Mo., visiting her daughter, Mrs. S. W. Hurliman and family. She returned last week with another daughter, Mrs. R. R. Creed and husband, to Tuscola to spend a few days. It was there last Friday that she suddenly passed away, death being due to a heart attack. She was ill but a short while passing away at nine o’clock that morning. Rev. Ellison read the following obituary at the funeral service: Martha Bell Norton, the youngest daughter of the Rev. Stephen and Jan Norton, a pioneer Methodist preacher; was born near Perrysville, Indiana, April 20, 1855 and departed this life at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Helene Creed, near Villa Grove on Friday morning, August 28. She was united in marriage with Wm. H. Sylvester in 1880 and they located on the farm near Lost Grove where she spent most of her life and reared her family. To this union there were born four children, two sons and two daughters, one of the sons, Fred, died in infancy.
She was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church and was strong in her faith until she passed on to her reward.
