Lt. Col. John Lawrence Holloway (USAF, Retired) of Ridgeland, Mississippi passed peacefully February 10, 2013 after an extended illness. He was born February 18, 1924 in Wedowee, Alabama. He was preceded in death by the late Katherine Haralson, his wife of 54 years, and the late Dorothy Lindsey, his wife of 13 years.

Lt. Col. John Holloway joined the US Army Air Corp on December 7, 1942 flying missions over Germany. He served active duty until the end of World War II, and then joined the Air Force Reserve where he served until the Viet Nam era. After the end of World War II he settled in Jackson, Mississippi with his wife Katherine where he joined the Mississippi Highway Safety Patrol and served as a comptroller and pilot for much of his career with the State of Mississippi. He later worked for the Law Enforcement Assistance Agency, and after his retirement from the State of Mississippi managed the State Employee Credit Union for 10 years. John was known for his dry wit, and had a love of flying and boating which he shared with family and friends.

He is survived by two daughters, Karen Holloway and her fiancé John P. Lipscomb of Brandon, MS and Denise Holloway Underwood (George) of Atlanta GA; two grandsons John Parker Herrin and Jason Lawrence Herrin, and two great grandsons Lucas Helmar Herrin and Colin Parker Herrin.

Visitation will be at Wright & Ferguson Funeral Home, 350 High Street, Jackson, Mississippi Wednesday from 5-7 p.m. and Thursday from 10-11 a.m. Services will conducted by Brother Keith Grubbs at 11 a.m. in the Chapel and Wright & Ferguson followed by burial at Lakewood Memorial Park.
