10/18/2003 - Ruth M. Anderson, 100, formerly of 140 Aldren Ave., died at 7:05 p.m. Thursday (Oct. 16, 2003) in the Lutheran Retirement Home. An area resident since the age of 19, she was born Oct. 2, 1903, in Kane, Pa., the daughter of John A. and Adeline Carlson Johnson.
She was a graduate of the Jamestown Business College and prior to her retirement in 1957, was employed as an office worker for the former Nelson's Department Store for 25 years. She was a long-time member of the First Covenant Church, where she was active in the Socialites Group, Covenant Church Women and the Mary Martha Circle. She was also a member of the Marvin Community House, the Gustavus Adolphus Children's Home Auxiliary and the Lutheran Retirement Home Auxiliary.
She is survived by three nieces: Loretta Snow of Kane, Pa., Delores Johnson of Pittsburgh, and Betty Johnson of Lynchburg, Va., formerly of Jamestown, her care givers.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Victor J. Anderson, whom she married Sept. 4, 1937, and who died July 5, 1987; two brothers: William and Walter Johnson; and four sisters: Dora and Alice Berg, and Blanche and Edith Johnson.
The funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in the Lind Funeral Home. David B. Larson, director of visitation for First Covenant Church, will officiate. Burial will be in the Sunset Hill Cemetery.
