SPRINGFIELD - Joseph Warren Gunn, 89, of Cortland St., quietly entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, January 16, 2013. Born and educated in Great Barrington, MA, the son of Clarence Gunn and Florence (Taylor) Gunn, Joseph joined the U.S. Navy and served his country for three years following graduation from Searls High School. Later, he worked for the Watertown Arsenal and the U.S. Postal Service. Joseph enjoyed being a member of Wesley United Methodist Church and was an active member of the Golden Age Club. He also enjoyed fishing, gardening, travelling to visit family, and sharing a love of music. He leaves his dear wife, of 56 years, Evelyn (Henderson) Gunn; a brother, Clarence Gunn Jr. (and wife, Elaine); five nephews, Abdus Muhammed (and wife Esther), Keith Cottman (and wife, Gooda), Gregory Cottman, Scott Gunn, and Clarence Gunn III; three nieces, Fatina Muhammad, Anita Tinsby and Tracey Williams, and their families; and several great-nieces and great nephews. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. at Wesley United Methodist Church, 741 State Street. Interment will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the Massachusetts Veterans' Memorial Cemetery in Agawam. Harrell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
