Pinson, TN- Funeral services for Homer Ray Jones, age 92, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, January 7, 2013 in the chapel of Lawrence-Sorensen Funeral Home with Reverend J. V. Davis officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Highland Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Jones died Friday January 4, 2013 at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital after a brief illness.

He was born on March 19, 1920 in the Toone Community in Hardeman County, TN. He spent his early years and attended school in the Rainbow Lake Community near Parkin, AR. His family returned to TN settling in the Pope Community where he met Nola Childress. They were married on January 17, 1942 and had their 67th Wedding Anniversary prior to her death in 2009.

A veteran, Mr. Jones served in World War II in the China-Burma-India Theatre as an aerial engineer in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He was proud to have been selected to participate in the Honor Flight Program, Huntsville, AL and visiting the World War II Monument in Washington, DC in 2010. He was a lifelong member of the VFW.

Mr. Jones was a retired farmer and deacon and member of Pinson Baptist Church. He was active in Farm Bureau serving many years as Director and President of Madison County Farm Bureau and as Director of The Tennessee Farm Bureau. He served on the National Cotton Council. Mr. Jones was elected to the Madison County Agriculture Hall of Fame.

He is survived by his children, Billy Ray Jones (Becky), Brenda Tedford (Jimmy), Johnny Jones (Linda) all of Pinson, TN and George Jones (Kathy) of Medon, TN; ten grandchildren; twenty-nine great-grandchildren and a great-great grandchild.

Pallbearers to serve are Brandon Blankenship, Josh Jones, J.P. Jones, Scott Jones, Marvin Meadows and Matt Tedford.

Honorary Pallbearers are members of Pinson Baptist Church, Farm Bureau Family and members of Pinson Ruritan Club.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Pinson Baptist Church, Pinson, TN 38366.

Visitation will be from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. today, Sunday, January 6, 2013 at the funeral home.
